This quote is significant, because through out the first couple of chapters people would
think Persephone and Mai are lesbians and they would critisize them but once they started cooking their delicous food, they would be nice. And most men who would come to their restraunt looked like a monkeys hind end. And now a days, most woman wear make up to get attention from men, but others think make up is used to get a sexual attraction from the opposite sex.
Questions:
1) Do you believe that make up is being used for other reasons ?
2) Do you think that all men look like a monkeys hind end ? or was Persephone over exaggerating..?
I dont think Persephone was doing of anything like that. I think that her use of make-up was just that she could look nice. Then again she did want the costumers who cam,e not to think that she was anything as a "Amazon". In a way i think her use of her make-up was to prove her costumers that they were wrong, that their assumtions of her were wrong.
ReplyDeletePersephone and Mai both just enjoy being women. They win over some people because the two of them are so lovable. Still, there are those on Portrero Hill who will never like the women, not nescessarily because they are lesbians. The rumor about lesbianism is just gossip. The people on the hill who do not like them, do not like them because Persephone and Mai represent hope and possibility, adn they (the people) do not think that either of those things truly exist.
